American Life Insurance Company Description

Belying its moniker, American Life Insurance Company (ALICO) provides life and health insurance only outside the US. (Fairness dictates noting that ALICO was named Asia Life Insurance Company for its first three decades, dating from its 1921 founding in Shanghai, China.) The company operates in more than 50 countries worldwide; Japan is ALICO's largest single market. ALICO sells such individual and group products as life insurance and annuities, accident and health coverage, and pensions. The company markets its products through a network of some 40,000 agents and brokers, and banks in some markets. ALICO is a subsidiary of troubled US insurance giant American International Group (AIG).
